The Inheritance of Rebellion

My blog posts typically offer tricks and tips for young adults on how to live your best life now through retirement by focusing on the philosophy: Treat your life like a business. I share my reasoning in a LinkedIn article I published last year.

I’ve purposefully strayed from addressing politics. However, during Black History month last year, my outrage against banning books, outlawing abortion rights and lessening diversity, equity and inclusion practices led me to post my first article with political commentary. I warned readers things could get much worse and folks, that’s exactly what happened.

As a result, I’m compelled to discuss this topic again during #BlackHistoryMonth2025 because of the injustices we’re currently experiencing and blatant indication of what’s coming.

A recent Facebook post reminded me of a time when people from my hometown faced discrimination in the 60s. I lived through these highlighted events that took place in Englewood, NJ. Some of the protesters were my neighbors.

Unfortunately, we’re right back where we started, with much more at stake. I believe our only hope is to react the way my neighbors did back then. It’s up to all of us to unite in developing strategies that empower us to pursue the life we desire and create a path to achieve this goal.

In 2023, The Heartland Society of Women Writers published a book titled I Dissent. It relates stories of how women rebel against wrongdoings. My story, Who, Me?, talks about my quiet, yet purposeful dissent.

At the present time, we can’t afford to sit back and do nothing. Each of us who cares about the precarious direction this country is heading needs to find a way to retaliate. We may not hold government positions or high-level jobs in corporate America, but we have each other.

I implore you to do your part by seeking out and supporting local efforts that focus on ideals you believe in, engaging with community resources and sharing the knowledge you gain. We must band together to take a stand against injustice and fight for our civil rights.

How will you dissent? Please leave a comment or suggest ways to fight the good fight.

“Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”
